Government backs Oxford’s Bid to be UNESCO World Book Capital!

It was recently announced that Culture Minister Ed Vaizey MP has confirmed the government’s backing for the bid – which is great news for us and will hopefully help to drum up some much-needed support.

Mr Vaizey said: ‘It is entirely appropriate that a city with such long-standing connections with books, literacy and learning should already be viewed as a world benchmark through institutions such as its premiere university and the Oxford English Dictionary.’

Oxford’s bid includes the redesign and opening of the Bodleian Weston Library and the completion of the Story Museum, as well as a yearlong programme of fantastic literary events.

Obviously if you are reading this, you are already showing your support by reading the blog but if you would like more info on how to get involved, check out the website at http://www.oxfordworldbookcapital.org/ and don’t forget to join us on Facebook and Twitter!

Get all your friends to show their support too if you can – let’s show UNESCO that we deserve to win!
